Women with gestational diabetes may have an increased risk for early development of heart disease after pregnancy in women who have not developed diabetes or the metabolic syndrome, according to a 20-year follow up study in the March 12 issue of the Journal of the American Heart Association.
A final recommendation statement released by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) advises universal gestational diabetes after week 24 of pregnancy.
