The personality traits of Neuroticism, Openness, Activity, Impulsiveness, and Order were related to diagnosis of diabetes in a large observational study published in the February issue of Personality and Individual Differences.

The prevalence of diabetes rose among commercially-insured children and adolescents between 2002 to 2013, according to a study published online ahead of print in Diabetes Care. The study also showed that while diabetic nephropathy is relatively uncommon in youth, the prevalence also is on the rise.

In both groups, the most common locations of musculoskeletal pain necessitating doctor visits were pain in the lumbar spine, back and pelvis.
Pregnancy in adolescents with type 2 diabetes was linked to miscarriage, stillbirth or intrauterine death in 26% of pregnancies and major congenital anomaly in 21% of live-born infants in the randomized controlled Treatment Options for type 2 Diabetes in Adolescents and Youth (TODAY) study.
