Is It Time to Redefine Obesity as Adiposity-Based Chronic Disease (ABCD)?

To accelerate social acceptance of obesity as a clinically recognized disease with a pathophysiologic basis, AACE/ACE issued a position statement advocating for a change in diagnostic nomenclature for overweight and obesity to adiposity-based chronic disease (ABCD). Is there a sufficient rationale for endocrinologists to embrace this recommendation?
