Posted in: Thyroid Nodules.
Hi! My mother had a thyroid ecography and they found 2 nodules, both 5mm, with "mixed nature, mainly cystic and regular limitations" (Sorry i tried to translate from portuguese might be innacurate) Is it reason to worry? Can it be cancer?

Sometimes they are thyroid cancer. But often they are just nodules. Check out Dr Jorge Fletchas and Dr. David Brownstein and the necessity of iodine.
Has your mother had her two antibody tests? The body sometimes attacks the thyroid and makes a person hypothyroid. She would need a full panel of thyroid labs to know what is going on, FT3, FT4, RT3, TSH and the two antibody tests. I would also get a serum iodine test and a serum selenium test. My iodine was low even after taking it for a year. Most people are actually low because we just don't get enough through out diets.
