Total thyroidectomy - weight gain please I need advice.

From: Emma Pennicott - 4 years 51 weeks ago

I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer last year in August with quite a large lump on the left half of my thyroid, I was rushed through due to the size and within a week had a Total thyroidectomy due to the size and where it was situated. During my surgery, they also accidently took a parathyroid gland. I am 24 years old and before all of this a very active and healthy young adult who had boundless energy, now I am struggling with my energy levels finding that after a day at work I need to sleep to recover. I am also gaining weight when I went into surgery I was 58 kg or a size 8. Since then I am closer to 68 kg and a size 10-12 which I try to tell myself that it's okay after all this but a year on I am starting to really worry. I have struggled with bulimia since I was 17 and had actually gotten this under control a few months before my diagnoses, my doctor brushes off the weight gain by saying that it isn't the most important factor but If anyone has any suggestions that would help me in my energy levels or at least leveling out my weight I would be so grateful. I am currently on Thyroxine 100 mcg.
