Hair Loss and Unsure of my doctors approach

From: ml85 - 3 years 41 weeks ago

I was diagnosed with hypothyroid 6 years ago by my naturopathic doctor. She put me on 60mg or 1 grain of Armour thyroid to start, which we increased to 75mg after about a year and I have been on it ever since. I now go to a regular MD who has been monitoring my levels for a few years and always say they are fine but that sometimes the free T4 is low. A few months ago i started experiencing lots of hair loss and it has not slowed at all. At first the doctor said she thinks it is stress related, but since it has not slowed is suggesting we increase my dose to 90mg. I am concerned about this because I know too much hormone can also cause hair loss and I am not even confident of my original diagnosis. When I look at my symptoms I feel like I have both hypo and hyper thyroid symptoms (It is difficult for me to lose weight, but I am a normal weight, constipation, fatigue, dry hair, but also I have anxiety and bouts of nervousness and don't sleep too well.) I am trying to get my MD to refer me to an endocrinologist, but wondering anyone's thoughts on this. i have a fear of being put on too much thyroid because I was given the wrong dose in the past and had serious heart palpitations. I really want to stop this hair loss and want to get the right answer to managing my symptoms long term.
