Hyperparathyroidism and The run around...

From: Timsnik - 47 weeks 1 day ago

I really don't understand why endos want to treat the symptoms and not take care of the problem. I feel like I'm at the end of my rope. I'm in pain, tired, forgetful and pretty much feel like I'm 90 years old. They cannot get my blood pressure under control. My PTH varies from 79-128 and my ultrasound came back positive but because my calcium was 9.4 then 10.1 they want to wait another 6 months and recheck my blood work. I'm full of kidney stones and have had to have 2 surgeries now. I now take 1000 mg of Motrin three times a day and a whole slew of other meds to try to mask my symptoms. I'm fed up and I want to be well. How is this ethical? Knowing the consequences of what is happening to my body by letting this disease continue. It's a 20 minute surgery. The surgery has a 98.8% success rate. That percentage is unheard of in the medical field. So why am I getting the run around?

Just a consideration. Have you tried asking the doctor to let you talk to a surgeon. I asked my PC if I could talk to one. I don't know if this helps.

I would say kindly, educate yourself. Read Dr. Normans website. He and his team are well known. His site is informative. It educated me to understand and have the right questions to ask. 2nd, get a second opinion. My Dr. Suggested going to the emergency room. I asked her Is that the best she can do?!. Try some sort of self soothing to help keep your pressure down. You will be able to concentrate better. I too am in pain. Hypercalcemia, Hyperparathyroidism and osteoporosis. Gerd, IBS. and tired. I will keep you in my daily prayers. You are not alone. I go for a consultation with an endo surgeon in 2 days. Have a friend go with you. Discuss and enlighten your friend to also read up on it. You both may have different questions and hear different things from the dr.
