Hypothyroidism and the Veteran's hospitals

From: SPQR62 - 6 years 37 weeks ago

I am a Vet and I can't afford decent healthcare so I am left with the VA system. I have this problem with my thyroid and I am left to try to find my own "cure". I have gained a ton of weight since I left the service and that is due in part to never getting my levels right and only giving me synthroid. Only now do I realize that it is part of my diet! I can't eat peanuts, strawberries, walnuts, etc. This is a very big part of the problem as we are an iodine deficient country. The Japanese have a diet rich in iodine, but the food they eat is gross and I am Italian. I have a big problem here!
