Actress Jennifer Grey may be best known for her role in the movie Dirty Dancing, and she has recently joined the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars (DWTS). However, the actress recently battled thyroid cancer, which was found during her pre-DWTS health screening, USA Today reports.
Grey underwent two surgeries to treat the illness, and said that she is now ready to take on every challenge that comes her way, even if she thinks she won't be very good at it.
"I began saying yes to everything scary that could be fun and joyful and not be controlled by fear," she told the news source. "DWTS could be a huge disaster for me, but I'm willing to take that chance. Life is short."
After her physician removed the nodules, Grey "required no follow-up treatment and was given a clean bill of health to be part of this season's cast," her rep told E! News.
According to the American Cancer Society, more than 44,000 new cases of thyroid cancer will be diagnosed this year in the U.S. The disease is more common in women, who will account for more than 33,000 of the diagnoses.
