I'm constantly getting these tingling pains all over my body, especially my hands and feet. It's driving me crazy!!!! I've been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Is this caused by my hypothyroidism? Does anybody out there experiance this. It's unbareable at times!!!! Hoping i can get some advice. Please Help!!

My whole family has thyroid problems. My grandaughter and I have graves. by poor granddaughter did not have it diagnosed quick enough and her eyes are sticking out and she needed surgery on her eyelids so she could close her eyes. I really wish doctors would pay more attention.
My grandson has hashimotos thyroiditis and actually went to a spine surgeon thinking it was sciatica. it turned out his levels were off and now that he is taking 188 mcg of synthroid he doesnt have the tingling anymore. get your levels checked you may need more meds.
I too have recently experienced a tingling of hands and feet. It is so obvious and also feels very strange....and there is also a feeling of coldness or burning attached to the tingling.....
I have been reading about these symptoms....but it seems many things could cause this.....they even mention diabetes and nerve damage due to glucose levels being off - and tingling of the hands and feet being a symptom of this.....so you need to go get checked out~

I had a thyroid removed about a year ago, I experienced a tingling feeling constantly after. At first it was attributed to low thyroid, but eventually it was connected to having low calcium levels (due to the removal of a few of my parathyroids). Its worth trying some basic calcium pills from your pharmacy. It helped me!
Thanks for the tip about Calcium... I have always attributed the tingling/numbness (sometimes feels like electricity) to my THYROID. Recently I was told I am low in calcium, vit d, iron, and omegas. Maybe this will get better as I take the supplements? :)
I am like that a lot during the night. I wake up with my hands asleep and tingling. Don't know if it's carpal tunnel or the thyroid. I go to my first dr appt. this friday. Hope to get some answers.
hello i was diagnosed with hypothriodism but i dont have that symptom. I am pretty sure that has to do with your cirrculation and /or your blood sugar levels. maybe i am wrong but you should talk to your doc. about that because with all the researching i have done i havent seen that symptom. Hypothridism,It could essentially lead to that being that your tyriod controls everthing in your body but how long have you had it? it may have progressed and thats why you have a new symptom.? i dont know but i would talk to a doc. Sorry i couldnt help more.
I have a long story involving stress fractures of my lower legs and ankles. At first the thought was that the feelings of neuropathy (pins & needles) were nerve damage. I don't have diabetes, and the usual thyroid tests were normal. I have seen a neurologist and take medication which helps decrease the pins, needles, and burning (lyrica). I have also started seeing an endocrinologist to see why my calcium absorption is so low, despite many supplements. It seems my PTH level bounces around despite my calcium level, and this affects the calcium absorption. I am also in the process of being diagnosed with multiple thyroid nodules. The neurologist told me that some tumors can release hormone-like substances that can cause the neuropathy.
This is similar to my experience. But not exactly pains.I had sensations which resemble prickly heat. Espesially on skalp. The sensations occured during stress or exercise.
This all went away after taking a few sesssions of acupuncture.I had pain in my body associated with hypotyroidism, but it's more of a heavy feeling.
yes i can atest to this situation. Just wanted to say that about 2 years ago i was going through the same sym. Tingling, numbness heavy, i thought i was having a heart attack at one point because my left side was numb and it fely heavy. I got scared and decided to take myself to the ER the doc said everything was ok. Sym kept on for a couple of months and doc did all kinds of exams from, MRI, MRA, EKG, Echo, EMG blood work and everything was norm. My doctors thought i was going crazy. I decided to change my doc and decided to get on thyroid compound i can say thank god as of 2 day i feel 80% better.
Same things been happening to me for a year! I thought I was having a stroke and doctors diagnosed me with hypERthyroidism. They said most of the time the pins and needles affect both sides but my body may be "wired" to just feel it on my left side. Did you fell "normal" when you started your meds? I have an appt with an endo 3/4/10. I cant wait for this to go away...
hey everyone...i have had hypothyroidism for 10 yrs now...been goin to my reg. doc for 10 yrs now and i still dont feel my med is doing what it suppose to. ive been on synthroid all this time. I think it is time to see a specialist. I too have been having bad health probs. i just recently quit my job where i was standing alot but my legs will go numb and sometimes feet..i think it may be Very bad circulation. Mine hurts so bad sometimes that i cry....also my blood pressure up its 160/100 and im only 31.... im so scared...well Everyone i would love to meet everyone. Hi Jennifer..I too have had hypothyroidism for about 11 years. After trying different dosages of Synthroid my doctor decided to put me on Armour Thyroid. I've been on Armour Thyroid for probably the last 10 years until a few months ago when I could no longer find it. I was fine on Armour Thyroid 30 mg. In the last month I've been on 3 different doses of Synthroid 125, 75, and 50. None of them have helped me. With all of these doses, I have the tingling of my fingers and toes, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, i'm tired...I've had an EKG done because I could have sworn I was going to have a heart attack. I'm seeing an endocrinologist for the second time in 2 weeks. I know how you feel. I too am scared and I don't like feeling this way. My kids are wondering what is wrong with me. By the way, i'm 41, my blood pressure was 100/80 at the last appt and my triglycerides are high....
