Thyroid hormones

My wife recently had her thyroid removed due to cancer. She is currently off thyroid medication x5weeks. She is miserable. She had radiation iodine treatment and now is told 10days before taking synthroid. How long is it safe for her to go without thyroid hormone?

Wow, I'm not sure why she needs to wait 10 days before starting replacement therapy. I think she should ask. Well now I see that you wrote a long time ago. Anyway, I was told I could start taking replacement meds the day after I had RAI.
